Donna Marie Skuce was born on February 18, 1940 to William and Nora Skuce in Stoughton, Saskatchewan. Although Donna did not live in Saskatchewan since her early twenties, Saskatchewan has always been her home. They say you can take the girl out of Saskatchewan, but you can't take Saskatchewan out of the girl. This is absolutely true.
These early years of growing up on the prairies shaped her values and her life for years to come. Even when Huntington's Disease had taken away most of her physical abilities she still had a yearning to go home for her own mother's 103rd birthday (Oct., 2015). Which she did.
Donna was the second of five children. She was a loving daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, grand-mother, and great-grand-mother. She loved all of her family and loved to be around them.
Education was an important part of Donna's life. She started public school in Stoughton, Saskatchewan. She then moved to live with her Aunt Iris and Uncle John in Froude, Saskatchewan where she graduated from highschool. Upon graduation, Donna moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to begin her post secondary education at the Universitiy of Saskatchewan and there completed her bachelors degree.
In 1965, Donna moved to Fort Frances, Ontario to work for the Children's Aid Society. It is here in Fort Frances where Donna met the love of her life - a teacher whose name is Roderick (Rod) McLeod. Rod has stated from the moment of their first meeting "they have never looked back" They were married on August 20, 1966...
